For four days in Lourdes, Lebanon was present in every prayer, every procession, and every moment of faith shared among thousands of pilgrims from around the world. At a time when the country continues to face war, uncertainty, and immense hardship, the participation of the Lebanese delegation in the 68th International Pilgrimage of the Order of Malta to Our Lady of Lourdes carried a meaning far greater than a journey; it became a testimony of resilience, hope, and unwavering faith.
The Lebanese delegation, composed of 150 pilgrims and malades, arrived in Lourdes carrying with them the struggles, prayers, and hopes of an entire nation. Despite the challenges facing Lebanon, their presence stood as a powerful reminder that faith continues to unite and sustain communities even in the darkest moments.
The pilgrimage was further honored by the presence of the First Lady of Lebanon, who joined the delegation upon the invitation of Marwan Sehnaoui, President of the Lebanese Association of the Order of Malta. Her participation reflected a shared commitment to solidarity, dignity, and spiritual strength during a difficult chapter in Lebanon’s history.
During her stay in Lourdes, a courtesy meeting was held with the Grand Master and the Grand Chancellor of the Sovereign Order of Malta. The encounter symbolized the enduring bonds between Lebanon and the international Order of Malta community, while reaffirming a spirit of mutual support and compassion.
Throughout the pilgrimage, the Lebanese delegation was met with warmth and heartfelt support from delegations and members of the Order from across the world. In every encounter, there was a clear and comforting message: Lebanon is not alone. The solidarity shown in Lourdes offered not only encouragement, but also renewed strength to those carrying the burdens of a wounded nation.
For the Lebanese pilgrims and malades, Lourdes became a place of prayer, healing, and peace; a momentary refuge where pain was met with compassion and uncertainty with hope.
They arrived carrying Lebanon in their hearts.
They returned carrying hope for its future.
