On 16 September, Order of Malta Lebanon inaugurated the Gabriel Abdeni Medical-Social Center, created to bring quality healthcare closer to the people of Jezzine and its surrounding communities, without discrimination. Located within the Antonine Fathers’ Monastery, the center will provide primary healthcare, specialized consultations, preventive screenings, as well as social and psychological support. The inauguration took place under the blessing of Maronite Patriarch H.B. Cardinal Bechara Boutros Al-Rahi, represented by Bishop Maroun Ammar, and in the presence of First Lady Neemat AounH.E. Archbishop Elie Haddad, Melkite Greek Catholic Archbishop of Sidon; ; General Youssef Haddad, representing Lebanese Armed Forces Commander General Rodolph Haykal; as well as current and former Members of Parliament and ministers from Jezzine, the Mayor of Jezzine, Mr. David El Helou, and numerous friends and supporters of the Order. Made possible through the generosity of Mrs. India Abdeni, Dame of the Order, in memory of her son Gabriel, and with the support of the Georges and Juliette Aziz Foundation, the Saputo Foundation through Development and Peace, and the French Région Sud-PACA, the center reflects OML’s enduring mission as stated by OML president Marwan Sehnaoui: to ensure that quality care is never limited by distance, vulnerability or financial means. Healthcare services at the center are funded by the German Federal Foreign Office, with the support of Malteser International, within OML’s AHEAD Program.
