The Order of Malta Lebanon has been operating in the health and social welfare sectors since 1957. It manages a network of 60 projects serving the most vulnerable populations, across the Lebanese territory including primary healthcare centers, mobile medical units, elderly day care centers, hosting centers for the differently abled and projects for the displaced and refugees as well as an agro-humanitarian project within the catchment areas of its centers.
The Order of Malta Lebanon has developed a comprehensive multi-annual program to strengthen its social, agricultural and health services as well as its structures.

SUMMARY
The Senior Accountant is responsible for managing the day-to-day accounting operations of the Order of Malta Lebanon, ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of financial records in accordance with applicable accounting standards, donor requirements, and internal policies. The role supports the Chief Accountant in preparing financial reports, safeguarding organizational assets, ensuring compliance with statutory and regulatory obligations, and strengthening internal controls across all programs and projects.
RESPONSIBILITIES
· Record and review all financial transactions (receipts, payments, journal entries, accruals, adjustments) in the accounting system.
· Maintain the general ledger, ensuring accurate classification of accounts and cost centers.
· Perform monthly bank, cash, and account reconciliations.
· Manage accounts payable and receivable, ensuring timely processing and follow-up.
· Maintain fixed asset registers, including depreciation schedules.
· Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports.
· Ensure timely closing of monthly and year-end accounts.
· Ensure compliance with Lebanese tax laws (VAT, income tax, NSSF) and statutory filing deadlines.
· Ensure compliance with Order of Malta internal financial policies and donor regulations.
· Support internal and external audit processes by preparing schedules and supporting documentation.
· Identify and help resolve discrepancies, control weaknesses, or irregularities.
· Process monthly payroll entries, including NSSF, income tax, and other statutory deductions.
· Supervise and review the work of Accounting Officers and Junior Accountants, if applicable.
· Provide training and guidance to junior finance staff.
· Support procurement and logistics teams on financial matters related to purchases and contracts.
· Maintain organized and accessible financial filing systems
· Collaborate with the finance department of the Order of Malta
· Apply and follow code of ethics, values, mission, and vision of Order of Malta – Lebanon
· Perform other related duties assigned by management
QUALIFICATIONS
· Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or Business Administration (MBA or professional certification is an asset).
· 5–7 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 2 years in a senior role.
· Experience with NGOs, international organizations, or nonprofit entities is an advantage.
· Knowledge, Skills & Competencies
· Strong knowledge of accounting principles (IFRS/GAAP) and Lebanese tax, labor, and NSSF regulations.
· Familiarity with NGO accounting and donor reporting is a plus.
· Proficient in accounting software (SAP or similar) and Microsoft Office.
· Excellent analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
· High level of integrity, confidentiality, and professional judgment.
· Ability to work independently, collaboratively, and under pressure.
· Committed to the humanitarian mission and values of the Order of Malta.
· Fluent in Arabic and English; French is an asset.
