A delegation from the Governement of Monaco, headed by HE Mr. Gilles Tonelli, Minister of External Relations and Cooperation of the Principaute de Monaco and Mrs. Benedicte Schutz, Director of International Cooperation (DCI), visited the works of the Order of Malta Lebanon last Thursday in the West Beqaa region.
Accompanied by Mrs. Emilie Silvestre, DCI Program Coordinator, Ms. Elodie Martin, Head of Lebanon programs at the CDI, as well as HE Bechara El Khoury, Consul of the Principality of Monaco in Lebanon, they started their visit by our Mobile Medical Unit operating in one of the settlements for the Syrian displaced population in Jib Jennin and continued to our Community Health Center and Day Care Center for the Elderly in Kefraya, where they were received by the President of the Lebanese Association of the Knights of Malta and the director of the center, Sister Maria Josefa of Besancon.
H.E.Mr. Tonelli expressed his contentment in seeing the elderly so happy, as well as his positive impressions of the quality of services provided in all the works of the Order of Malta that he was able to witness.
“Of all the 330 projects the Governement of Monaco supports, this is the only one that deals with the senior citizens” said Mrs. Schultz, and “what makes the Order different from all others institutions, is this cycle of generations that it deals with, giving it a whole different dimension”. She continued by saying that “The Government of Monaco is very happy to support the projects of the Order of Malta, which benefits from a reputation that all other partners respect and that is very inspiring…we are happy and proud of this collaboration that we intend to pursue”.
The collaboration between the Principality of Monaco and the Order of Malta dates back to 2014, with the support of the program for the elderly in the day care centers of Kefraya (West Beqaa) and Roum (Jezzine).
The Order of Malta Lebanon is grateful to the Principality of Monaco for standing by its side in pursuing its mission to serve the needy.
