The ages of our disabled guests vary from 6 to 70 years old. Their mental disabilities range from mild to severe impairments. Many of them have no real connection with their families and spend the whole year locked inside their homes or centers. For lack of proper funding, our “guests” receive no professional psychological follow-ups and very little affection. These conditions lead the autism -disability of some- to continuously worsen. The lack of personal relationships often leads to depression, apathy and isolation.

The Order of Malta Youth with the Elderly

We host guests from 5 different psychiatric institutions. Some syndromes include: cerebral palsy, severe retardation, down syndrome, polyhandicap, epilepsy, and autism.

Contact with centers and foster homes is continuous, and the disabled guests regularly express their desires to get back to the holiday camps and meet their volunteer friends. During these vacations, they discover an ability within, which will support and boost them all year long: acceptance, tolerance, friendship, joy, and love.
