We usually say that the best things happen unexpectedly but that the most important turning points in our lives often come at unexpected times and in unexpected ways.
COVID-19 was a moment of truth, a crossroad between our old habits and the new ways of living, and for us Lebanese youth, it happened to be an additional layer on top of all the problems we were already facing to build our future.
Seeing our lives going upside down, being constrained to have a pause while we were supposed to live to the fullest this year, was out of this world. But time and patience were the two most powerful challenges. Some of us enjoyed this “pause” and found time to lay back, some others tried to be creative, some were looking up to connect with nature and some were in the front line working day and night to protect the others. The way we spend our time defines who we are.
The Youth of the Order of Malta succeeded in combining all this by adapting, creating, supporting and protecting the others through various new activities while keeping it up with the most vulnerable.
So let’s pay tribute to those who knew what time is all about: the medical staff , the brave volunteers, the generous hands, and all the soldiers behind the scenes.
COVID-19 had a way to show us all what really matters.
