The sisters working at the Kefraya Community Health Center witnessed the isolation of the elderly in the region, with the youth leaving their villages to look for jobs in Beirut. They had the idea to create a center for them.
Since its opening, the Kefraya Center for the Elderly has proven successful as it addresses the issue of seniors quality of life by providing them with a range of professional and paraprofessional support services and by creating a lasting bond between the elderly and caregivers.
The team operating within the Day Care Center of Kefraya has properly responded to the needs of the elderly in that area, it covers approximately 17 villages.
The Day Care Center of Kefraya has created a positive impact in the area: Seniors have found a warm place where they can discover, share, celebrate, have fun, stay in shape and maintain a good health.
The main activities offered to the elderly are:
- Daily breakfast and lunch, prayer, playing cards, backgammon, hygiene services (nail cut, hair cut)
- Celebrations for special events such as Saint Barbara Day, Christmas, Mothers Day, Easter, elders birthdays and miscellaneous spiritual activities.
- Outdoors activities are provided to help the elder populations empowerment: walks, shopping, patrimonial visits
Capacity Building:
- Awareness sessions related to health and personal hygiene
Paramedical and medical services:
- Consultations in the adjacent medical center of the Order
- Glucometer test, blood pressure test
Warm Homes:
In addition to that, this Center has also established 2 Warm Homes in the area (Aitanite and Jdita), where the elderly’s socialization is maintained through the organization of different activities such as playing cards, backgammon, watching television, practicing some manual activities as well as having coffee, tea, cake…
The enthusiasm and confidence that are witnessed in the Warm Homes come to prove the success and the importance of establishing these gathering places.
