ABOUT US

The Order of Malta Lebanon has been operating in the health and social welfare sectors since 1957. It manages a network of 40 projects serving the most vulnerable populations, across the Lebanese territory including primary healthcare centers, mobile medical units, elderly day care centers, hosting centers for the differently abled and projects for the displaced and refugees as well as an agro-humanitarian project within the catchment areas of its centers.

The Order of Malta Lebanon has developed a comprehensive multi-annual program to strengthen its social, agricultural and health services as well as its structures.

In this framework, the Lebanese Association of the Knights of Malta / Order of Malta Lebanon is looking for an experienced

SOCIAL WORKER

SUMMARY

Support families and individuals with specific needs to cope with challenges they are facing in their lives and improve their psychological and social status. The social worker prepares, plans, implements, and finally evaluates special programs aiming at achieving a comprehensive, continuous social development and wellbeing.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Map the available services in areas of intervention (Health, Education, livelihoods, etc.….), and update the service mapping periodically.
  • Carry out social, psychological and health care assessment needs in alignment with the medical and social strategies.
  • Log all activity data on Phenics and corresponding data sheets.
  • Formulate a social intervention plan and implement activities within the scope of the center’s outreach services in alignment with OML projects
  • Conduct initial assessment of potential beneficiaries / beneficiaries situation to determine social and economic needs through case-studies, interview techniques and other professional tools.
  • Create beneficiaries files and maintains an updated database.
  • Identify situations that need to be followed up, evaluate needs and organize support (including distribution of aids when available).
  • Ensure that all “in need” cases are identified and addressed when possible.
  • Offer information, support and referral for incoming people seeking help.
  • Manage cases in collaboration with multi-disciplinary specialists (psychologists, psychiatrists, …) and deliver related assessments.
  • Document, maintain and store records according to policies, regulations and procedures in a manner that preserves the confidentiality of the information (recording cases of abuse and domestic violence etc.)
  • Discuss with specialty doctors special cases of individuals refusing treatment with the treating doctors, and work to improve communication between patient and treatment team.
  • Receive distribution supplies and divides them upon priorities.
  • Report suspected cases of child and/or adult abuse, violence, neglect and exploitation
  • Provide legal information and refer patients to appropriate counselors and legal aid
  • Administer social visits and medical homecare visits to beneficiaries
  • Coordinate with social team for implementation of OML activities
  • Report to OML Social Coordinator on all related tasks
  • Attend training sessions, meeting and supervisions in order to maintain and enhance knowledge and meet certification and / or credentialing standards when relevant
  • Prepare weekly and monthly reports related to the progress of the activities and their effectiveness
  • Applies and follows code of ethics, values, mission, and vision of Order of Malta – Lebanon
  • Performs other related duties assigned by the healthcare center administrator and social worker coordinator.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor degree in social work (assistante sociale). Masters degree is a plus
  • A minimum of 3 years relevant experience as a social worker including social needs assessment
  • Working knowledge of social theories and practices
  • Knowledge of mental health in complex situations (IASC guidelines, Psychological First Aid, mhGAP…) and human rights-based approach in mental health
  • Knowledge of legal and ethical issues related to patients’ rights and social legislation in Lebanon
  • Social interview and assessment techniques
  • Communication and strong active listening skills
  • Empathy
  • Stress management
  • Collaboration and teamwork
  • Planning and organizing
  • Computer literacy (Microsoft Office…) including working experience with a health information system (Phenics or other) is a must
  • Fluency in Arabic, and one additional language (French or English) is a must
